Vinpocetine
Vinpocetine
Marketed as Cavinton or Intelectol, Vinpocetine is a nootropic agent. It is primarily used as a treatment for cerebrovascular diseases and memory impairments related to the aging process. Though anecdotal evidence points to its efficacy as a nootropic, no studies have sucessfully examined its mechanism of action with regards to this effect.
Manufacturers claim that Vinpocetine acts as a neronal protector and cerebral metabolic activator. It is claimed that it increases blood flow to the brain which results in greater oxygenation. More blood and more oxygen result in improved performance.
History of Vinpocetine
Vinpocetine was discovered in the late 1960′s and has been used for three decades in the treatment of age related dementia and other conditions resulting in cognitive impairment.
